Summer is almost over!
Those four words can cause different emotions from different people. For some, that means getting back into a routine. The routine of school or work. For others, it means winding up one last outing or time away before the weather begins to turn. And yet, others anticipate the change in seasons.
This summer at Grace has been packed with kids and student ministry events, camps and a whole lot of fun. It also has been a time where a large amount of guests have come with many making Grace their home. Another aspect of summer at Grace is a drop in our budget giving. Because of people’s schedules with vacations and time spent away, giving typically drops in the months of June-August. That trend has continued in the summer of ’17. In years past, we rebound by the end of the year.
There are many great opportunities we have coming up this Fall to be fruitful and make disciples here and around the globe. It will take time, talents and treasure to do what has been planned. I would like to encourage you to take three steps and… (1) Be here each week. If you have gotten out of the routine of coming to church, make it a priority to be here. I would hate for you to miss out on what God is doing as we gather each week. (2) Bring your gifts…your time, your talent, your treasure. It takes all three to be the church God wants us to be. If you are not involved in a ministry, make a commitment to join a team. If you have not been ordering your finances around God’s principles of giving or tithing, take a step of faith and begin. This is the one place God challenges us to test Him to see if He is faithful. Another story about His faithfulness during the Simple Challenge is coming. (3) Come with an expectation. Do you expect to encounter God when we gather? I want to challenge you to pray: “God, show me your glory,” every time you drive onto Grace campus. It’s when we see who God is, we are reminded of who we are and the great power He has available to us through the Holy Spirit.
I am excited to think about what God will do in and through Grace Church if each of us will take these next steps as we head into the Fall. Remember, God has called us to be bold as we Love God and Others, Making Disciples who Make Disciples as we Encounter Him, Equip each other to Engage our Culture.
God Bless and See You This Sunday (BTW, you won’t want to miss…we have a special guest),
